Description
[Dr.] Kirkemo tells the story of how God’s grace is brought to action in the life of Point Loma Nazarene University. Dr. Kirkemo shows the dynamics of openness and closure in the values, personalities, policies and activities of the institution that influence the flow of grace. He explores how grace affects thinking and relates to change and how it must be understood in both its saving and humanizing roles. The book traces the creation and expansion of institutional means of grace into a permanent and flourishing infrastructure of grace. To make the theological concept of grace more relevant to the university, Kirkemo turns to the Revelation letters and finds four ways in which grace should impact the life and work of the institution. Suggesting that Point Loma should see itself as a university in the service of grace, Kirkemo focuses on verse 10 of the Isaiah chapter as the great destiny of significance, which is open to the university – to build a highway for the people, to remove the stones that demean and defeat people and to proclaim God’s love and power to all. — excerpt from book’s back cover
